He was born in Norwich, Vt., son of Frank G. and Florence Ward Somerville. He was a graduate of Hanover High School Hanover, N.H., and the Vermont Technical Institute. He was an independent trucker for three years, then worked for the former B&P Co., now known as Old Colony, as a truck driver. He owned his own family farm in South Lee and enjoyed farming.
During the Korean War, he proudly served his country with the Army in Alaska, attaining the rank of Corporal.
He was a former member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, South Lee, and attended Ashbury United Methodist Church, Otto, N.C. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, V.F.W. post 7339, American Legion Post 108 and a former member of the South Lee, V.F.W.
Sherm moved to Otto, N.C., in 2000 before moving back to Lee in 2010.
He was predeceased by a brother, John.
