Frank Bennett's father was a sea captain, and Frank went to sea with him at the age of 14. In 1868 he quit sailing the deep ocean and stayed in San Francisco as a master of coast steamers and river boats.
He came to western Montana in the 1880s and for a time worked on the Flathead reservation breaking horses. He spent the last decade or so of his life working off an on as a bartender at the Louvre saloon.
Frank passed away in the old Rankin hotel from pneumonia before he could be taken to the hospital. His father was alive at the time of his death.
