S. Stewart Graff, 100, of Monroe Township, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at his home. Born in Worthington, he resided in Irvington-on-Hudson, N.Y., for many years until moving to Monroe Township, N.J., in 1989.

He was an honorably discharged Army-Air Corp veteran with the rank of captain serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School and was working with the New York law firm of Brown, Cross, and Hamilton.

In 1945, he married Polly Anne Colver, an author. In 1946, they moved from New York City to Irvington, where they lived until 1989.

After he retired from the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturer's Association in New York City, where he worked as an executive secretary, Mr. Graff authored many children's books, including "The History of World War II", published by E. P. Dutton. He and Polly Anne co-authored "Helen Keller Toward the Light", published by Garrard in 1965. Mr. Graff served on the scholarship committee of Irvington High School and was an active member in the community.

He was predeceased by his wife, Polly Anne Graff; his father, J. Frank Graff, who was a Republican Pennsylvania State Senator; his mother, Martha Stewart, also of Pennsylvania; six brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his daughter, Kate Graff Miller, of Austin, Texas; a stepson, Jeremy Harris, of Worthington, Ohio; three grandchildren, Chelsea Miller, Stephen Harris and Anne Harris Pesciotta; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Monroe Village, Monroe Township, N.J. Arrangements are under the direction of A.S.
