Thomas LeRoy Zuber was born June 4, 1912 in Corning, Adams County, Iowa to Alonzo (Lon) Ezra Zuber and Mary Roxanne Beals.
In 1929 Lon took is two sons to Council Buffs, Iowa to buy cars. He bought two new 1929 Chev's for himself and son Russel, and a 1926 Chev for son Tommy age 14. Each drove there cars home to Nodaway, Iowa. Tommy served his country during World War II, fighting in Europe. He served under General George Patton. He often saw Patton standing on the hood of his jeep giving orders and watching his troops on the move. General Patton always went with his troop into battle. Tommy landed in France and went through France, Germany and Austria with Gen. George Patton's company. When his company returned to Germany Tommy remembers that they came to a Prison Camp south of Munich, where they drove a tank over the barb wire fence to liberate the prisoners being held by the Germany's. Tommy was a mechanic, keeping Gen. Patton's tanks and jeeps moving, with not many parts. He would scrounge parts were every they were. He found a motorcycle in not very good condition, with a few bits and pieces he got it running and this his transportation for a while. He has always been grateful that he never had to kill any one. After his discharge in 1945, he moved to St. Joseph, Mo . Where he has lived all his life in only two locations. He married Stella Foster about 1938. They were divorced about 1941. His first job after the war was a grain hauling business from Iowa to Arkansas. Later on he moved to Seymore St. in St Joseph where he engaged in a recycling business Collecting various metals in St. Joseph and selling them in Kansas City. A truck driver for 64 years he never had an accident, retiring at the age of 80. He was an inventor of many things. One of his best was for the environment. A way to burn and dispose of old tires and automobiles with out polluting the air. Only a few were sold for pet cremation and one grocery store. He met and married Mary Johnson, one daughter was born to them, Roxanne Marie. When she was killed in an auto accident near Kearney, Mo. Tommy and Mary raised their three grandsons, Truman, Jermiah, and Joshua. The boys still live near there Grandfather, continuing with many of the things there Grandfather love to do (like build race cars.) He had many interests in life including go-cart and car racing. Mary had two children Fredrick a nd Margaret Johnson. Freddy was a avid go-cart driver when he was a young lad. Grandson's Truman and Jermiah Asher are still Race Car driver, in year 2006.
