OBITUARY:

Delbert Lavon "Del" Yarbrough, 64, died Tuesday at his Napa home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Yarbrough was born on Oct. 18, 1928, in Pharoah, Oklahoma., to Eddie Eugene and Dovie Pearl Lindley Yarbrough. He received his education in Limestone, Oklahoma schools.

Mr. Yarbrough spent three years in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949 and for much of that time he was stationed in Kumumoto, Japan, serving as a military policeman.

After his honorable discharge, he went to work as a police officer with the City of Calistoga. Mr. Yarbrough had several different jobs in the following years, including that as a plumber at the California Veterans Home and serving as a balliff in Napa County while Bucky Stewart was serving as sheriff. He later worked for Napa County in Prisoner transport and he also drove a truck for several years.

Mr. Yarbrough was a skilled guitarist and he and his band played in many local bars and taverns for several years.

He was a member of Yount Lodge No. 12 of the Free and Accepted Masons and Redwood Baptist Church.

He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting.

Mr. Yarbrough is survived by his wife, Terri Lee of Napa; a daughter, Louan Yarbrough of Napa; a son Delbert L. Jr. of Wewoka, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Shelley Kukuchka of Napa; a brother, Elgie of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 1:00p.m. Friday at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., with H. Marlowe Link officiating and Young Lodge No. 12 F.&A.M. participating. Visitation will be today until 9:00p.m. at the funeral chapel. Interment will be at Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Contributions to the Cancer Wing at Queen of the Valley Hospital, 1000 Trancas Street, Napa 94558, have been suggested by the family.
