William John Welk, age 81, of Lodi, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on December 25, 2011. He was born on December 19, 1930, in North Dakota to Gabriel and Mary (Welder) Welk, the fourth of 13 children. William worked as a rancher for several years before becoming an auto mechanic. His greatest passions were fishing and camping. He was also a member of the Lodi Sportsmen's Club.
He is survived by his children: Connie (Marvin) Schatz and Scott (Peggy) Welk both of Lodi; grandchildren: Jordan Welk, Ashley Schatz, and Dylan Schatz; and siblings: Victor Welk, Angie Wolf, Doris Hartze, Kathy Schumacher, Jerome Welk, and Paul Welk.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Florence Aberle, Lena Wolf, Rosie Seiler, Harvey Welk, Francis Welk, and Charles Welk.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 30, at 2 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. There is no visitation and committal is private. Memorial contributions may be made in William's name to AseraCare Hospice, 2529 W. March Lane, Stockton, CA 95207. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
