Purvis was a native of Jennings, LA. and a resident of the Jennings/Evangeline area. He was a 1954 graduate of Iota High School and a member of the 1954-55 State Championship football team. He was a Cajun Fiddler since 1948 and was an original member of The Clement Brothers band that recorded the cajun tune "Diggy Liggy Lo" in 1952. He was a barber since 1957 and was a member of the American Legion. He served three years in the Louisiana National Guard Division 156. In 1993, he was inducted into the Louisiana Hall Of Fame, along with his 2 bandmates/brothers Terry Clement and Grant Clement. His friends and family loved him dearly and knew him as a little piece of history.
