Bess was born in Shawnee, Indian Territory. Bess was the second child of four, her siblings were 3 brothers. Her family moved in a covered wagon from Shawnee to Webb City, MO.
On. September 16, 1914 she married Oliver Perry Romine, in Independence, Kansas. They lived for a time in Omaha, NE and Kansas City, Kansas,they eventually ended up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where they spent the rest of their lives. She had 5 daughters and 1 son.
Bess was very active in different Ladies Clubs in the area, and started the PTA in the Muskogee School Systems. She also served as Kitchen Manager at Whittier School for a time.
