Roman Consul. He was born in 83 BC and died in 30BC. He was a cousin of Julius Caesar, chosen Caesar's co-consul for 44 BC. Antony, Octavian and Lepidus formed the Second Triumvirate after Caesars assasination in 43 BC. There insued a long struggle for the rulership of Rome. Antony met and and became involved with Caesar's mistress Cleopatra VII, Queen of Egypt, which contributed to his downfall. Octavian quickly decided that the alliance of the two lovers was not in the interest of his rule of Rome. At a great naval battle at Actium Octavian decisively defeated Antony. He and Cleopatra committed suicide rather than be captured.
