EDWARD L. BOLD, 83, the owner of radio station W.S.N.J. in Bridgeton died Tuesday evening March 4, 2003 at S.J. Hospital - Bridgeton. He had been in declining health.

Born in Camden, Mr. Bold was a 1939 graduate of Glassboro High School. He was the husband of Katherine M. (nee Weber) Bold and had been a Bridgeton resident for many years. The Bolds lived in the home they built since 1949.

Mr. Bold was raised in Camden County and after high school went to work at R.C.A. in Camden. Behind him in the assembly line was the radio repair department. His love of radio developed while other employees at R.C.A. would explain the operation and repair of the earliest of radios.

During his service in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II he received training in radio communica-tions. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard he became the engineer at radio station W.S.N.J. in Bridgeton. Over the years he attended various radio repair schools including M.I.T. in Massachusetts. He left the radio station on two different occasions, first to troubleshoot and perform repairs for R.C.A. at other radio stations and later to work installing, along with Fred Wood, the first cable system in the area in Millville. He later managed the Garden State Cable Company which is now part of Comcast.

He always returned to W.S.N.J. and in 1971 realized his lifelong dream of owning his own radio station. First formed as a partnership, Mr. Bold and his wife became sole owners of the station in 1991. The W.S.N.J. reputation of being "your radio and friendly family radio station" was fostered by Mr. Bold and his family. W.S.N.J. was the first fully licensed FM radio station in the State of New Jersey.

In 1990 the radio station was honored by the Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce by being selected as the service division's business of the year.

Mr. Bold remained active as a supporter of any community activity by having the radio station, not only be involved, but by providing publicity for any worthy organization.

He was a member of the Bridgeton Rotary Club and was a former member of the Bridgeton Zoning Board. Although active with the radio station until his death he always placed the greatest importance in his life on his family.

In addition to his wife of sixty years, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Bold Reed and her husband, Herbert of Hopewell Township and Lynn B. Timberman and her husband Chuck of Upper Deerfield Township; four grandchildren, Mark Yoshioka and his wife, Christine of Hopewell Township, Kevin Yoshioka and his wife, Gloria of Havertown, PA., Lindsey Timberman of Newark, DE and Katie Timberman of Upper Deerfield Township. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Gina, Mark Jr. and Jacob Yoshioka and Ethan Timberman and was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
