David Joseph Pepin, 78, passed away on February 2, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. He was born November 11, 1933, in Ispeming, Michigan, the son of Adelore and Alice Isabelle Pepin. He served in U. S. Army. He had worked for the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, and Haven USD 312. He was a member of the Haven Christian Fellowship.

He leaves behind a great many family and friends.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Haven, with Pastors Donovan Graber and Marshall Manning officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Memorials to Haven Christian Fellowship, in care of Ott Funeral Home, 102 N. Wichita, Haven, KS 67543

HAVEN, KS. - David Joseph Pepin passed away on February 2, 2012 at St. Francis hospital, Wichita, KS. David was born November 11, 1933, in Ishpeming, Michigan to Adelore & Alice (Isabelle) Pepin. He had 3 brothers & 2 sisters. He attended several colleges, and graduated from the Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning, Ga. His military service was served in Kansas City, MO. in the Army information HGS. In the early 60's he lived in San Francisco hanging out in the Height-Ashbury District. He lived a number of years in the south L.A. area, the Venice Beach area, and the Encino, San Fernando Valley area.

In 1981 he moved to the midst settling in South Central Kansas. To honor a promise to his army buddy Robert Valdois and helped take care of his father Frank Valdois while working at a grain elevator, Haven school district, and eventually the Kansas Department of Corrections at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, retiring in January of 1999. By December of 1999 he was back working as a jailer at the Reno County jail.

After 4 years he spent a short time working at the Bob Johnson Detention center in Hutchinson, KS and was then a driver with the Work Release Unit. Later he became a volunteer with the Resource Center at the Institution.

In 2004 there was a need to have some Limestone Fence posts carved into yard decorations. Dave was determined and taught himself with a hammer & chisel and progressed to power tools, He became quite good at this art in which he surprised himself.

Dave accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Haven Christian Fellowship where he attended each week.

He also attended the United Church of Christ each Sunday with Liz. Dave stated that his life motto was "Not finished just begun."

A memorial service was held on Monday February 6, 2012 at the United Church of Christ, Haven with pastors Donovan Graber and Marshall Manning officiating.

A burial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were handled be the Ott Funeral Home of Haven, Kansas.
