Tencher Lavinia Joyner was born on December 8, 1888, a daughter of William Alfred Joyner (1850-1929) and Sarah Elizabeth (Wyles) Joyner (1851-1932). She was the sister of Clifford Joyner (1871-?); John Macklin Joyner (1880-1887); Daisy L (Joyner) Douglas (1881-1908); Minnie Isabel (Joyner) Abbott Seckinger Clark (1884-1973); Addie Joyner (1886-1906), Leora Rebecca (Joyner) Bennett Ellison (1891-1959) and half-sister of Clifford Lucius Joyner (1877-?) and Laura Anna Joyner (?-?).

Around 1906, Tencher became the wife of James Henry Goodhall (1881-1961), born in England and immigrated around 1900 or 1901. Interestingly, her sister's (Leora) husband, Robert E Bennett, was from England and had immigrated in 1878. On Oct 14, 1907, they had a daughter, Maude Evelyn Goodhall. Tencher was a favorite aunt of Robert "Bob" W Bennett, son of Leora and Robert, that continued with Maude. The last name is pronounced "Goodall".

In 1910, Tencher, age 21, lived in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, with her husband, James H. Goodhall, and daughter, Maude Evelyn Goodhall, age 2.

On Sept. 11, 1918, her husband, James Goodhall of 411 Tattnall St, Savannah, registered for the WW 1 Draft in Savannah, Georgia. Interestingly, he noted nearest relative, his wife, as Hortense Goodhall at the same address.

In 1920, Tencher Goodhall, age 31, lived in Savannah, Chatham Co., GA with her husband, James H. Goodhall, age 38, and their daughter, Maude, age 12. They were living with her father, Alfred Joyner, age 69, and mother, Sarah E Joyner, age 68. All family members were born in Georgia except her husband.

In 1930, Tencher H Goodhall, age 41, was living in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, with husband, James, now age 48, and her mother, Sarah E Joyner, age 78. (Her middle initial probably indicates Hortense again, maybe a nickname)

In 1940, Tencher, age 47, lives in Savannah with husband, James Goodhall, age 57 and a Railroad watchman, their daughter, Maude Gay, age 31, divorced and a department store saleslady and their grandchildren, Barbara Gay, age 12, and Edgar Gay, age 10.

For further official name and birth clarification, on Jan. 11, 1945, State of Georgia, County of Chatham, a notarized sworn statement document certified that Tencher Lavinia (Joyner) Goodhall was born on December 8, 1888 to Sarah Elizabeth (Wyles) Joyner and Alfred William Joyner at Springfield, Georgia, Effingham County. Witnesses were Mrs. Willard Coolidge and Mrs. Laura Stringfield and signed (she made an "X") by Laura (Wyles) Pannels (sp. Panell), age 92 years, sister of Sarah Elizabeth (Wyles) Joyner.

On Dec 24, 1979, Tencher Lavinia (Joyner) Goodhall, age 91, died with burial at Mallette Cemetery (Hodges-Crosby Section), Effingham County, GA.

Note: Local funeral home said Mallette cemetery, located across from Turkey Branch United Methodist Church, is known by 3 names, Mallette-Hodges-Crosby, with 2 sections that included the older Hodges-Crosby Section.
