June Katherine Arquette. Beloved matriarchal role model, June Katherine Arquette passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Hinsdale Hospital. June was a resident of Elmhurst, IL for over 60 years. She served the community as a public school teacher, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, long time member of Christ United Methodist Church, Boy/Girl Scout Leader, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars supporter, and church/community picture historian. She was a sweet and strong woman who through her commitment to her Christian faith cared deeply for family, friends and community. As an avid letter writer and picture taker, she
reached out and maintained relationships, new and old. Her interests included walking, writing, bowling, bingo, collector of many things especially bells, stamps, postal First Day Issue Covers, coins and swans. June always had her camera, film and dark chocolate always with her. June was born to Hubert and Elsie, nee Schulz, Von Arx in Chicago, IL on Wilcox Street in the Madison and Crawford (Pulaski) neighborhood. She was the oldest of three - sister, Ruth Slater and her late brother, Frank. June attended Austin High School and was active in Bethel Lutheran Church growing up. That is where she met her sweetheart, Leonell "Lee" H. Arquette, husband of 61 years, who preceded her in death March 2008. June married Lee after her civil service in the Signal Corps during WWII. Alumni of Chicago Teachers College, she was a kindergarten and substitute teacher in
DuPage County. She later was a banquet waitress and retired from Oak Brook Hyatt House. Since the 1980's she has been an active member in American Bell Association (ABA) and is a former National President. As loving mother she is survived by her five children, Kathleen, Gerri Fingerle, Robert (Micalene), Leonell (Susan) and Christine (Joel) Perrino. She was a beloved grandmother to Stephanie (Jake) Lindgren, Melissa, Jessica, Kent (Jana) Groh and
Kevin (Debbie) Groh. Her joy was in great-grandma to Joseph Lindgren, McKenna Groh, Presley Groh, Kyle and Kaitlyn. She is survived by her sister, Ruth (the late
William) Slater and sister-in-law, Anne
Von Arx. Much loved aunt to the Slater, Von Arx and Wallwin families. Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst, IL, from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22. In state at Christ United Methodist Church, 920 Swain, Elmhurst, IL from 10 a.m. until time of Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23. Interment Elm Lawn Cemetery.
