HISTORY of Kentucky, Vol. II, Fayette County:

The oldest newspaper still printed in Kentucky is the Lexington "Observer & Reporter". On February 7, 1807, William W. Worsley and Samuel R. Overton issued the first number of the "Lexington Reporter", which was continued without interruption or change of name until March, 1832, when it was purchased by Edwin BRYANT and Nimrod L. FINNELL and consolidated with the "Lexington Observer". Its editors - who, in most cases, have also been proprietors or part-owners have been:
William W. Worsley, 1807-19
Thomas Smith, 1816-32
James W. Palmer, 1828-29

Nimrod l. Finnell started as a pioneer printer in Winchester, Kentucky by 1821. In 1823 he was a printer in Georgetown, Kentucky. He purchased the Lexington Observer and Reporter in 1832. Owned and published the Daily Lexington Inteligencer 1831-1839, and lastly the Covington Licking Valley Register.


Edwin Bryant and Nimrod L. Finnell, 1832 - 33, who had published the "Observer" for some years previously, and afterwards established and published for some years, "The Lexington Intelligencer".
