Garfield NEWELL, 70, prominent Liberty township farmer and former member of the county board of commissioners, died at 9 a.m. today at his home, two miles east of Fulton. Mr. Newell an active member of the Republican party had many friends throughout both Fulton and Miami counties. He had been a resident of Liberty township for 25 years coming there from Carroll county. He was born Sept. 26, 1882 at Hoopeston, Ill., to Robert and Harriett (HAAS) NEWELL. He was married to Nellie DUBES on October 26, 1902, at Cutler. Mr. Newell owned and operated a farm in Liberty township and was active in this vocation up until three months ago when illness forced his retirement. In addition to his services as county commissioner he also was a former member of the Fulton county council. Surviving are his wife, at home; four sons, Everett [NEWELL], Fulton; Russell [NEWELL], Michigantown; Thomas [NEWELL], South Whitley; Fred [NEWELL], Springfield, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Meredith BAIRD, Fulton; twelve grandchildren; three brothers, Robert [NEWELL], Royal Center; William [NEWELL], Cutler; Berdia [NEWELL], Monticello; three sisters, Mrs. Lydia DUBES, Delphi; Mrs. Alta SMELTZER and Mrs. Harriet METZGER, both of Pyrmont [?], Ind. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Friends may call at the Ditmire Funeral Home, Fulton.

Funeral services for Garfield NEWELL, who died Friday morning, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fulton Baptist church. The Rev. R. H. TURNER will be in charge of the rites. Burial will be in the Fulton cemetery. Friends may call at the Newell residence two miles east of Fulton.
