Nail Scratch Causes Death

Theodore Brose Died Last Night At St. John's Hospital From Blood Poisoning

Widely Known In Helena

Lived Here Seventeen Years - Worked at West Side Meat Market - Fifty Two Years of Age - Member of Butchers' Union and Brotherhood of Owls - Funeral Tomorrow Evening

Theodore Borse, an old timer in Helena, died early last evening at St. John's Hospital. His death was due to blood poisoning caused by a nail scratch on his hand. He was in the employ of the West Side Meat Market and two weeks ago was moving a meat barrel. In some way his left hand was scratched on a nail in the barrel. The scratch was slight and Mr. Brose thought nothing of it. Last Tuesday it began to fester and some of the men he was working with advised him to see a physician. He called at the office of Dr. Rudolph Horsky and had the sore treated. It gradually grew worse and soon developed blood poisoning. His arm swelled to an enormous size and last night the end came suddenly.

Well Known Here

Mr. Brose had been a resident of Helena for 17 years and was one of the best known men here. He was a man with a pleasing personality and made friends wherever he went. Since he came to Helena he worked as a butcher and has been employed in nearly every meat market here. At one time, in partnership with his brother, he ran a market of his own. His brother died about six years ago and since then Brose worked in other markets. For some time he was in the Helena Meat Company's shop and at the time of his death was with Weggeman & Moran, proprietors of the West Side Market. Every place he worked Mr. Brose was held in the highest regard by both his employers and associates. His death will be a shock to his wide circle of friends for up to a few days ago he was among them as actively and good naturedly as ever. In fact few knew of the seriousness of his condition until last night, when it was announced that he was dead.

Was Never Married

He was 52 years of age and was born at Racine, Wis. he never married. He left Wisconsin 17 years ago and came west. With his brother he landed in Helena and made this place his home since that time. Mr. Brose has a niece and sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Brose and daughter, living here, and a mother, three sisters and two brothers, living in Racine. He was a member of the Helena Butcher's Union and of Helena Nest No. 26, of the Brotherhood of Owls. For some time past Mr. Brose lived at the Rodney Hotel.

The funeral arrangements have not been completed, but the present plans are to hold it at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning from the Cathedral of the Sacred Hearts. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
