Obituary, Anderson Independent, February 1, 1952:
"Belton, Jan. 31- Joseph Carl Alewine, 66, died at his home near Cheddar at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after an illness of three months.
He was a native of Abbeville County and had been making his home for about a year near Cheddar. He was twice married. His first wife was Mrs. Lillie Page Alewine. His second wife was Mrs. Corrie Alewine, who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Braynard Alewine of Williamston and the following step-children: Wilford Alewine, Fred, Ellis and John Page, Mrs. Jessie Attaway, Mrs. Ola Lollis and Mrs. Alice Davis; five brothers, Alonzo of Walhalla, John B. and Robinson of Greenville, Sherard of Abbeville, and Crayton Alewine of Due West; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Lollis of Anderson.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belton where funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. D. H. Daniel, The Rev. W. A. Cabaniss and the Rev. H. D. Revis. Burial will be in Belton Cemetery. Pallbearers: Felton Alewine, Jim Duncan (note: Pallbearer Jim Duncan later marries the departed's widow, Corrie Alewine!), Hoyt Duncan, George R. Alewine, Virgil Coker and Willie B. Alewine. The body will lie in state at the home. Tolly-Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge."
