Rufus Lounsbury Clason was born in Beaver Dam, Dodge, Wis. on 8 April 1842, son of James Ferris Clason and Louisa Robinson.

Rufus was written about in the Miller Family in America-Genealogy of Reminiscences:
"Harriet Bush Clason was a successful teacher, Rufus Clason was a farmer. They spent their winters in Florida, Cuba, and California. Mrs. Clason had been in ill health for a number of weeks and was brought home from Florida because of the serious condition. He was born in Waukesha Co. [incorrect-born Beaver Dam]. He was one of a family of 11 children. He spent his boyhood in Beaver Dam, Wis. and gained his education through the country schools, later in Beaver Dam public school and two years at Wayland Academy. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted. Was a member of the Baptist church of this city and he was a member of First Wis. Volunteer Cavalry for three years. In
1860 he became a member of the First Baptist church of this city and has been a faithful member."

Rufus died 27 April 1918 at his home in Beaver Dam, Dodge. Wis. aged 76.

Rufus and Harriet had 3 children: May Elnora (1875-1878), Edgar Lafayette (1877-1940), and Ethel Kate (1880-1888).
