William Henry Steuart, son of John and Rachel Steuart, was born November 15, 1868, in Perry county, near Sparta, Illinois, and departed this life October 11, 1948, at his home near Winchester, lacking but 34 days of reaching four score years.
He came to Kansas with his Parents in 1880 and settled near Hickory Point. He attended that school and the old Academy in Winchester and was graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan in 1895. He worked in construction work at Manhattan and as a surveyor in the mining districts of Colorado. Returning to Winchester he engaged in arming. Surviving him are his widow Mrs. Jennie Steuart, of the home; his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Watters, and granddaughter, Phyllis Jean Watters, Great Bend; three brothers, Renwick Steuart, Tucson, Ariz.; Ira Steuart, Winchester; Weir Steuart, Fresno, Calif.; Two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Curry and Ethel White, preceded him to the heavenly home.
He was a loving and thoughtful son, brother, husband and father, and he opened his home and his heart to many.
"A good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith."
