Richard E. "Dick" McFarlane, 80, retired Foley Tractor Co. vice president of sales, died Sunday (Feb. 22, 2004).

He was born Dec. 8, 1923, to Robert and Mary (White) McFarlane in Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Ella Mae Mayberry Feb. 28, 1948. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He fought in several campaigns in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Pennsylvania. He was awarded seven Battlestars and a Purple Heart.
His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Brenda McFarlane and Cheryl Griner and husband Steve, all of Wichita; a sister, Jewell Parks of Largo, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Jason Griner and Justin Griner.

He was preceded in death by: five sisters, Idell Welty Prouty, Roberta Rogers, Wilma King, Dorothy Smith and Marian Byler; and two brothers, Robert "Bob" McFarlane and Ross McFarlane.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Westlink Church of Christ in Wichita.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Hesston Cemetery.
