A memorial marker was erected for the 1976 bicentennial by the Daughter's of the American Revolution (DAR) dedicated to Col. Gilbert Christian. It is located next to the historic Netherland Inn, Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee. It is one of the sites along the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail, a corridor from Long Island of the Holston to Cumberland Gap.

the plaque reads:
"Colonel Gilbert Christian, 1734-1793.
First permanent settler in Kingsport. The first route in the Kingsport area was laid on on his land grant in 1802 and was originally named "Christianville". Placed by the Long Island Chaper of the Daughters of The American Revolution - July 4, 1976."
