He was born on November 20, 1921 in Danville, VA the son of the late Dolan Williams and the late Annie Cassell Williams.He lived his entire life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area. He worked at the former Dan River Mills Schoolfield Division in the #5 finishing inspection until his retirement. He was a member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church, Danville Life Saving Crew, Westover Hills Volunteer Fire Department, and the Disabled American Veterans.He was a veteran of the US Army, having served with the Virginia National Guard in WWII with the 104th Medical Division of the 29th Infantry. He loved the outdoors. He worked on the family farm, hunted, fished, and went camping with family.On Tuesday, October 23, 1945 he married Elizabeth Barbour Williams, who survives of the residence.Mr. Williams is also survived by a daughter Judith W. Giles of Danville, VA; one grandson, Daniel E. Giles (April} of Chatham, VA; two precious great granddaughters, Taylor Elizabeth Giles and Allison Grace Giles both of Chatham, VA; one sister, Nellie Turner (Ernest) of Winston Salem, NC.Besides his parents, two sisters, Edith Williams and Jeanette Cox; and two brothers Henry R. Williams, and Norwood "Billy" Williams predeceased him.Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Bob Huffman and the Reverend Ben Barbour officiating. Interment followed the service in Danville Memorial Gardens.
