The pastor insisted Joseph take on his mother's maiden name, so he became known as Joseph Kranawetter. He married Ernstine Ruehling on July 13, 1871 with pastor F. Koestering presiding. It is interesting that all his marriage documents show the spelling of his last name as 'Kronewetter.'
In 1889, Joseph and Ernstine became two of the charter members of the new Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, MO. Together they had nine children.
Joseph Kranawetter died on November 20, 1923 and was buried in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
