Joseph joined the Mormon Church at an early age. He walked from his home at Fountain co. Indiana to the Mormon Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. He helped some of the people as they traveled in the Handcart Company. He was also involved with various other things with Bringham Young. He spent one year as a missionary in England. He was ordained a Deacon, Teacher, Priest, Elder Seventy and High Priest. He fulfilled a mission to the Southern States from 1902-and 1903. He also served in Presidency 5 Quorem of Elders and as Superintendent for several years. He worked fro Taylor-Romney-Armstrong Lumber Company for 20 years and followed Contracting and Building for 15 years. Joseph's diary from when he left his family to go on his pilgrimage, has been copied for family members and passed down through the years.

NOTED: Saw your "Find A Grave" entry for Joseph Benson Elder. At the time he joined the Mormon Church he was living in Kinmundy, Illinois rather than Indiana (although he may have been born there). He was my husband's 2 great uncle.
