Mrs. Russ Washington, 89 years old, a member of the first families settling in Cooke County, died at midnight Tuesday (ed: it was Tuesday 30 June 1931) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Marshall, 212 East Pecan Street. Funeral services will be held at the Marshall home at 7 o'clock Thursday morning with the Reverend William Lee Edwards pastor of the Dixon Street Christian Church, of which she was a member, officiating. Burial will be made in the family burial plot, known as the Howard Cemetery, near Delaware Bend, with Funeral Director George J. Carroll in charge.

Mrs. Washington is survived by five daughters, 26 grandchildren and several great-grand children. The daughters are Mrs. Rosie McLish, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Clay Long, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Mattie McCain, Dexter; Mrs. T. L. Murrell and Mrs. C. E. Marshall, Gainesville.

Mrs. Washington was born on April 12, 1842, in Kentucky. She was Miss Emma Spence before her marriage to Russ Washington, who proceded (sic.) her in death 31 years ago. She moved with her family to Cooke County soon after the close of the Civil War, settling in the Coesfield community.
