Ann Curry Upshur, of Sumter, died peacefully on February 1, 2012, after an extended illness. She was 87.

Born in Monroe County, AL, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Grimes Curry and the late Johnnie Nora Curry.

Mrs. Upshur was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of New Salem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Master Life. She also enjoyed participating in church mission trips to South America.

She was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of Saint Margaret School of Nursing in Montgomery, AL. Mrs. Upshur worked as a private duty Nurse at Tuomey Hospital for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Nora Harris Gaymon (Harry) of Sumter; one grandson, Brandon Lee Gaymon (Elizabeth) of Charleston; a special adopted daughter, Ruthie Jennings of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Lois Curry of Montgomery; one nephew, Roger Curry (Mary) of Montgomery; two nieces, Linda Miller (Lee) of TX, and Nancy Hendrick (Benjamin) of LA; and the children, grandchildren, and extended members of the Upshur family who were very dear to her.

Mrs. Upshur was preceded in death by her spouses, Robert Joseph Harris, Hugh Paul Creech, and James Blanding Upshur; and her brother, Col. Clarence Grimes Curry, Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. February 4, 2012, in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Lenair Singleton officiating.
