He proudly served in the U S Army and in October 1918 was severely wounded in France. While in the France hospital his dear sister Lillian died of the flu. His military records have two enlistments, one following his recovery and discharge.
John married 1) Eloise Diaz Garza. They adopted her niece Bertha Guterriez Rotan (1915-1933). He married 2) Minnie Gertrude Rotan and they had one infant son and six daughters. He married 3) Ruby. He married 4) Hazel Daniel to whom he remained married until his death.
He was a surveyor by trade. In 1943 he and Ruby were living in Cleveland, Ohio. John attended college in Mexico. In 1946 his residence was Mexico City.
In 1950 John was ordained as a Cumberland Presbyterian Preacher, Longview, Texas. He remained in the ministry until his death. Hazel and John made their home in Linden, Texas.
