Jamestown Optimist: July 27, 1900:
"Guilliland - Mary Wilson was born May 2nd 1833 in North Carolina. Emigrated with her parents to Cedar Co. Iowa in 1844, where she married James Guilliland May 27, 1850. She came with her husband to Gender Co., Mo. in 1860, and to Republic Co., Kansas in 1872 where her husband died, January 16, 1874. Since the death of her husband she has made her home with her children. She was the mother of nine children five girls and three boys. In early life she gave her heart to God and her name to the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a loyal and faithful member. She suffered from a complication of diseases for some years, which she bore with Christian fortitude. She said to the writer some weeks ago, that she was fully prepared and had no fears of death and was anxious to be released to go home. She fell asleep in the arms of her blessed Saviour at the home of her daughter Mrs. Clara Macy, July 23, 1900, aged 67 years, 2 months, 22 days. The funeral service was conducted by her pastor at the Maceyville M. E. church, after which her remains were laid to rest in the Macyville cemetery. F.D. Funk, Pastor."
