WEST SOMERVILLE.

Death of Rev. William McDonald, D. D., Veteran Methodist Divine-Church and Society News-Locals.

Rev. William McDonald, D.D., the distinguished Methodist divine, author, evangelist, and editor died at his home, 25 Campbell park, Wednesday at 4:30 a. m., aged eighty-one years.

In addition to a widow and her two children, J. F. R. Foss, a well-known banker in Minneapolis, Minn., and Miss Nellie Foss, who has always made her home with her parents, Dr. McDonald leaves an own son and daughter. They are William MacDonald [sic] professor of history at Brown university, Providence, R. I., and Mrs. Fred. W. Farley, of Waltham. There are also eight grandchildren and one great-grand child.

The funeral was held this afternoon, the arrangements being in charge of W. A. Frink. At 1:30 o'clock a prayer service was held at the house; Rev. Arthur Page Sharp officiating. After this brief service the remains were taken to the Park-avenue church, where a public service was held. Rev. Mr. Sharp was in charge. There was a large attendance, the Methodist clergy and membership of the Park-avenue church being well represented. About the casket were a number of beautiful floral designs.

The pall-bearers were Eugene D. Lacount, Joseph Sawyer, Thaddeus Luce, Henry F. Buckley, and Stephen H. Lewis, members, of the Park-avenue church, and Mr. Perkins of Waltham, an intimate friend of the family. The burial was in the family lot at Forest Hills cemetery.

The arrangements for the funeral were made by Dr. McDonald with Rev. Mr. Sharp a few days before the former's death.

Dr. McDonald was the son of Joseph and Mary McDonald, and was born in Belmont, Waldo county, Me., March 1, 1820.
