Donald Ray Peters, 77, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hanover, Indiana.
Mr. Peters was born on July 27, 1934, the son of Ernest and Magnolia Witham Peters. He married Sarah Martin on November 13, 1961 in Leesville, Louisiana. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2011.
Mr. Peters was an Engine Tester for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana retiring in 1993 after 30 years. He had previously worked at the Osgood Shoe Factory and at Vevay Shoe Factory. He was a member of First Christian Church in North Vernon, Indiana and a member of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge, F. & A.M. and North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed deer hunting, spending time with his family, working in his yard and gardening.
He is survived by his son, Tim Peters of Hanover, Indiana; a step-son, Andy (Heather) Seymour of Smyrna, Tennessee; a daughter, Brenda (Keith) Woods of San Angelo, Texas; two brothers, Bill (Esther) Peters, of Jefferson County, Indiana and Terry Dean (Pam) Peters of West Chester, Ohio; one sister, Betty Peters, of Hanover, Indiana; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Jerry and Norman Peters.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Anthony Sweeney officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 by members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. providing military graveside rites.
