James Halladay Thomas was born in New York about 1785, the son of John F Thomas 1760 and Rebecca Halladay. He lived in Middlefield, Otsego, New York from 1810 to 1850. He married Zilpha Manchester, the daughter or John Manchester 1764. His parents and his spouse and her parents all lived in Middlefield, Otsego, New York. Many of Zilpha's siblings moved to Lake County, Ohio around 1850 - 1860. James and Zilpha probably also made this move. Zilpha died in 1851, so possibly only James and his children made the move. His children Collins F and Delos also made the same move, but Delos later moved back to Otsego county. James is in the 1860 census in Harpersfield, Ashtabula, Ohio. Probate records exist in Lake County, executors are his sons Delos and Collins F and showing an assumed date of death 1867.
Some known children are Ann 1807, John M 1808, Betsey 1810, Colins F 1811, Polly 1814, Clarissa 1815, Amelia 1818, Calvin S 1818, Delos 1825.

Later in life James married Jane, probably after Zilpha died in 1851. Most children are considered children of Zilpha. Jane is also buried in the same cemetery as Zilpha, Middlefield Baptist Cemetery in Middlefield, Otsego, New York.
