John Vasey enlisted in the 8th Regimental Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, Comapny H on September 18, 1861. He reenlisted on January 1, 1864, and was mustered out on July 17, 1865 as a corporal. He listed Richmond as his place of residence the first time he enlisted and Woodstock the second.
After the war he settled down in the Wauconda, Illinois area where he made a living as a farmer.
