Lewis Edward Dixon, 76, of Wilmington and formerly of Durham, NC passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 following a lengthy illness with Parkinson's disease.

He was born in Durham, NC on September 16, 1935 to the late Fate Alvin Dixon and Ruby Barbee Dixon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Dixon and a sister, Elizabeth Ellis.

Lewis was retired from the Durham Fire Dept. with the rank of Battalion Chief with 37 years of service. He was a member of Durham Lodge #352 A.F. & A.M., a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of Amran Shrine Temple. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. In his leisure time he enjoyed wood working in his shop.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Faye Parker Dixon; one daughter, Lori Dixon Greer; one granddaughter, Ryanne Parker Greer; one brother Donald Fate Dixon and one sister, Cheryl Dixon Yorks.

A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC. Masonic rites will be accorded by Durham Lodge # 352 A.F. & A.M., and Military Honors by American Legion Post #10 Honor Guard. His urn will be placed in Maplewood Cemetery, Durham, NC on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2 PM with funeral honors by the Durham Fire Dept. Honor Guard.
