Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Mounts
Mary Elizabeth Mounts was born April 12, 1879 at Gordon County, Georgia and departed this life on December 22, 1954 at the Holy Family Hospital at Laporte, Indiana. She was
75 years, 8 months, and 9 days. She moved to Washington County, Indiana, from Georgia at an early age and this has since been her home until her passing. Her short illness terminated at LaPorte where she was spending the winter with her devoted daughter Audrey, a teacher at the LaPorte high school. At the end of the first semester and the beginning of the school Christmas Vacation she was returning to Salem along with Audrey, who was granted a leave of absence from the school to care for her mother. The plans were altered due to the rapid decline in health and subsequent demise, but her body has been faithfully attended by Audrey, who has granted her wishes to the very best of her ability under the circumstances.
Mary Elizabeth Mounts was the daughter of Henry C. and Alice Blackwell Lyles and was married to Archibald Mounts at Jeffersonville, Indiana, on March 9, 1909. To this marriage were born two children: Francis Eugene, who died at the age of three days, and Verle Audrey, who has been her mother's constant companion. After her marriage she received nurses training at the Cherokee State Hospital at Cherokee, Iowa.
She has been greatly respected by her family and friends for her loyalty and devotion to those she loved. With marked patience she lived a quiet, dignified life, an example to all who knew her.
After the passing of her husband, she and her daughter have constantly been together during the months when vacations from school came, she spending the last school year, with her at Anderson, Indiana.
Also surviving is one brother James Beldon Lyles, of Riverside, California, two nieces, cousins, and many friends.
