Samuel Amato, Jr, 75, of California, PA, died Saturday, Nov 11, 1195 at 9:15 am in Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born in Palermo, Sicily, June 11, 1920, a son of the late Samuel and Josephine Pandio Amato.
He was a member of St Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in California, PA.
Mr amto was a World War II veteran.
He held memberships in the American Legion Post 377, the Senior Swin Club and the Italo-American Club, all of California, PA. Additionally, he was a meber of Sons of Italy, Brownsville, the UMWA District 4, and was a scoumaster of Cub Pack 110 of California, PA from 1956 to 1960.
Mr Amato retired as a miner from the LTV Coal Division, Bobtown Mine, after 42 years.
Surviving are his wife, Regina "Jean" Hixson Amato; two sons, James Samuel Amato of California, PA and Oliver Michael Amato of Durango, CO; one sister, Edith Amato of Monaca; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by brothers, Joseph and James Amato; and two sisters, Angelina Panopinto and Mildred Vetch.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 am with intermeny in Mt Calvary Cemetery
