HELEN R. SNIPES, (nee RICKETTS) 96 - of Vineland, passed away on Wednesday afternoon November 23, 2011 in the Lincoln Specialty Care Ctr., Vineland. Mrs. Snipes was born on July 11, 1915 in Elmwood, PA and has resided in Vineland, NJ since 1917. She was the daughter of the late Nannie (Todd) and George W. Ricketts and the wife of the late Eugene Snipes, Jr. who died in 2002.Helen was in the 1st Graduating class of Vineland High School in the New Landis Avenue building in 1933. Helen worked hard all of her life working where ever she could to help her husband and to raise her family. She worked as partner and book-keeper for her husband's hauling and landscaping business. Helen also worked in local canning and clothing factories and, for several years as an assistant at Delsea Yard Goods. She was devoted to being a good wife and mother to her children.

A very active person, Helen was involved in many organizations at the New Bethel AME church where she was a member for over 80 years. She joined the Stewardess Board in 1968, the Missionary Board in 1968, and the Trustee Board in 1972. She was also a member of the Social Saving Club and the Host & Hostess Club in her community. In her free time Helen enjoyed reading, sewing and solving puzzles. She also loved watching sports especially professional baseball and golf.

Helen's personality and sense of humor made her loved by many. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who survive her: her son, Kenneth (Yvetta) Snipes of Cleveland Heights, OH; her daughter, Gloria Lewis of Langhorne, PA; and her daughter Beverly (William III) Lewis of San Antonio, TX; 12 Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; and 1 brother; Eli Ricketts, Vineland.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM on Friday December 2, 2011 in the New Bethel A.M.E. Church, 414 N. 7th St., Vineland, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Twp., NJ.
