BRISCOE - Willa Laurel Singleton Fillingim, 87, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Wheeler with the Rev. Aaron Laverty, pastor of Gageby Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Gageby Cemetery in Gageby by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Mrs. Fillingim was born May 30, 1918, in Lipscomb County to William and Flora Rose. She married Hershal Singleton, who preceded her in death in 1945. She married Elisha Green Fillingim on May 9, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1999. She attended school in Booker, graduating from Booker High School. She attended West Texas Normal College. She moved to Hemphill County after she and E.G. married. She was an active member of Gageby Baptist Church. Mrs. Fillingim lived out her life on her beloved farm and animal zoo. She organized farm play days and kindergarten animal days. She received the State Conservation Homemakers Award and shared her love of all animals with everyone. Foremost in her mind was the salvation of all of those she came in contact with.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Gerry Fillingim; her parents; two brothers, Houston Rose and Virgil Rose; and a sister, Elma Rives.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurel Hershman and husband, Edwin, of Wheeler and Lajo Crownover and husband, Charles, of Briscoe; a son, Gayle Singleton and wife, Kay, of Colony; six sisters, Faye Sell of Amarillo, Joyce Hardage of Chelsea, Okla., Rose Tetters of Prescott, Ariz., Gay Andler of Breaux Bridge, La., Eda Bynam and husband, the Rev. Donald Bynam, of Moss Point, Miss., and Vea Fillingim of Wheeler; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many other extended family members.

The family suggests memorials be to Rainbow Acres, P.O. Box 1326, Camp Verde, AZ 86322-1326 or Adam Tipps, in care of Dick Irvine, Briscoe, TX.
