Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a musician in the Union Army in Company G, 37th Ohio Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on November 25, 1863 at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee. His citation reads "Seized a musket and joined in the charge in which he was severely wounded."
