Jesse Carroll Goree, son of Henry Goree 1782-1846 of Clay County, Illinois and Henry's first wife. Jesse was born in Tennessee; married Martha Jane Cunningham and later Mary Gaston.

Jesse Carroll Goree is not the son of Britain Goree as was suggested by seminal Goree family researcher Langston James Goree V circa 1980 in newsletters. Most Ancestry trees contain this error. Jesse Carroll Goree's father Henry Goree 1782-1846 (unknown parentage) left Newberry County SC, lived in (unknown place(s) in Tennessee before moving to Illinois.
