Frank Campbell Pierce, 83, of Riverdale, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012. Mr. Pierce was born on February 11, 1928 in Atlanta, GA, the son of James L. and Mary C. Pierce. He graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna. Mr. Pierce served as a Radio Operator in the United States Army 57th Signal SV Company, from 1946 to 1948 in post-war Germany, where he participated in the Berlin Airlift and received the World War II Victory and Army of Occupation Medals. Following his military service, Mr. Pierce joined the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (Trappist Monks), at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, where he lived and served for eleven years. He later received a release from his monastic vows and married the late Sara Kate Pruitt on December 22, 1962. They were married for 40 years and resided in Riverdale, where they raised three sons. Mr. Pierce was a founding member of Saint Philip Benizi Catholic Church, and a Knight of the 4th degree in the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus, Father Bleimel Council.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Kate Pierce. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; grandson; brother; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service held on January 30 at Saint Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro with Father John A. Koziol officiating. Burial at Forest Hill Memorial Gardens, Forest Park. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
