Mary Alice Hughes (nee Janssen), of Brookfield, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, and her brother Jerome Janssen. Dear mother of Catherine (Greg) Peterson, Thomas, Michael (Barbara), Patricia (Amy), Lori, and Glenn. Loving grandmother of LJ and Nicholas Peterson, Natalie (Andrew) Sears, Matthew, Stephanie, Michelle, Timothy, and Amanda Hughes. Proud GREAT grandma of Charlotte and Derek Sears. She is also the fond aunt of John Janssen and Jeanne Martens.

After graduating from Holy Angels High School, Mary Alice worked for the Medical Society. She met the love of her life, Jim, when she belonged to the Young People’s Club (YPC) along with other cherished lifelong friends. They settled in Brookfield to raise their children and she spent her life as a dedicated mother and homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church for almost 60 years.

Those who knew her, knew she had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughter. She loved some of the simpler things in life. Besides being a homebody, she loved music, colors rides, board games, and Brewers games...and she never met a cookie (or Dove Ice Cream bar) she didn’t like.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, from 9:30 - 10:45 AM, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1755 N. Calhoun Rd., Brookfield. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Caring Place in Waukesha and the staff at Froedtert Hospital for their loving, caring compassion given to our mom, and the support they have extended to our family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Caring Place (http://www.thecaringplacewaukesha.org/)
or St. John Vianney St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program (https://stjohnv.org/parish/st-vincent-de-paul-meal-program/) would be greatly appreciated.

“Just a gentle woman with a big heart.”
