Claude "Pudge" Franklin was born January 20, 1886, in Tilden, McMullen County, Texas, to Ralph Silas "Rafe" Franklin and Amanda Minerva Holland. Claude stood 5ft. 5 1/2in. tall, had blue eyes, dark hair and a light complexion. He was married to Ida Mae Morgan on March 31, 1926. They had two children, Claude Jr. and Lottie Lee. Claude was a stockman. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on January 16, 1918 thru July 15, 1920, as a private Co. I. He was promoted to Sergeant on October 1, 1918; then reduced to private due to reduction in force as WWI was over March 1, 1919. Claude had been the Atascosa County deputy sheriff for several years. He reenlisted under the new law as Sergeant in Co. C, June 20, 1919. He then resigned to go into business for himself. In 1930, he was an oil company salesman and bookkeeper in Cotulla, La Salle County, Texas. Claude Franklin died November 28, 1960, in Atascosa County, Texas. He was buried in Cotulla West Cemetery in La Salle County, Texas.
