Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Haymaker officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Bonnie was born on Monday July 8, 1912 in Clendenin, West Virginia. She married Earl William Backus on February 6, 1928 in West Virginia. Her parents were Edward Glen Welch and Elva May (White) Welch. Bonnie was a resident of the Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant area since 1932. She was a home maker, a member of the Chippewa Baptist Church, and the Greendale Community Center for Senior Citizens.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Earl Duane (Nancy) Backus of Higgins Lake, and Judith A. (Bernard) Backus-Flint of Blanchard; daughters-in-law Myrtle and Pat; a sister-in-law Laura Welch of Midland; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and twenty great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, two sons William and Dale Backus; two brothers Bolton and Edward Welch; an infant brother, Dalton, and an infant sister Sylbia Marie.
The family suggested memorial contributions to Tendercare Mt. Pleasant or Chippewa Baptist Church.
