Daughter of Jeremiah Chamberlain (1707-1776) and Margaret (Margery) Hamilton (1716-1795), of York Co., PA. Martha
married Benjamin Beatty in York Co. about 1775. Born in Ireland, Benjamin fought in the American Revolution and reportedly accompanied Gen. George Washington in the crossing of the Delaware. Margery and Benjamin are said to have moved to Westmoreland Co. in about 1810. The Beattys had ten known children: Margery; Hamilton; John; Jamison; Samuel; Ann; Mary; Martha; Elizabeth; and Susan. They were Presbyterians.
