The 10th child of Jonathan Morgan Clower (a Revolutionary War Soldier) and Mary Shuler, Jonathan Shuler Clower was born on 10 Jul 1811 in Jasper County, Georgia. He married Mahala Elliot on 12 Dec 1833 in Shelby County, Alabama. Jonathan was listed in the 1850 Census as a blacksmith in Shelby County, Alabama with his wife and seven of their children. Eventually they had nine children together. He died on 16 Sep 1855 in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. He was listed in the "Known Burials of Morehouse Parish" as J. S. Clower, 46 years old, but other sources have him as being born in 1811 making him only 44 years old. One of the other sources is "The Georgia Frontier: Colonial Families to the Revolutionary War Period" by Jeannette Holland Austin.
