ACKEL Jeanette Lentini Ackel, age 85, went to her eternal rest on Friday, January 27, 2012. Born in Kenner, LA, on June 16, 1926, Miss Lentini graduated from Kenner High School. After marrying George Ackel, Sr., the family built their life together in Harahan, LA where they were devout members of St. Rita Catholic Church. Following her husband's death, Gov. Buddy Roemer appointed her to fill his unexpired term on the Louisiana Public Service Commission, making her the first woman to serve on the state's utility regulating panel. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and citizen, Mrs. Ackel was also preceded in death by her husband, George Ackel, Sr.; son, George Ackel, Jr.; and her brother, Salvator Lentini. She is survived by her sisters: Emanuella Peraino and Rose Cole; her brother, Anthony Lentini; son, Thad Ackel, Sr.; six grandchildren: George J. Ackel III, Alana Ackel Tallo, Adam Ackel, Thad Ackel, Jr., Olivia Ackel Benge, and Alexander Ackel; and by six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, January 30th, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. A Mass will be said at Tuesday 11:30 a.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 7118 Jefferson Highway, Harahan. Burial will follow at All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans.
