John H. Head was born on 5 October 1842 in DeKalb County, Georgia, to Richard Head and his wife Juliana Luticia Hatcher.

There were seven known siblings in the family and they were, Thomas Edmonson, William M., Sarah J., Harriet A., Richard IV, Samuel J., and Elizabeth.

John married his first wife who is unknown to this researcher and one daughter was born of their union. Nancy "Nannie" Head was raised by her grandparents after John's wife died.

John fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War and during his time ine the military he was friends with Napoleon Bonaparte McPherson, Jr.
Napoleon died during the war and John became acquainted with his widow who was Anna Suddeth McPherson. Anna was left with three children.

About 1867 John Head and Anna Suddeth McPherson were married and of their union were born five children. The children were John H., Nora Isbell (Shawn), Ada Lee (Cruse), William Newport "Dink,"
and Charles Jackson Head.

Anna Suddeth McPherson Head died on 31 January 1917 in Alvord, Wise County, Texas and was buried in the Jonestown Cemetery, Alvord, Texas.

After Anna's death the family moved to Oklahoma and it was there on 5 January 1929 that John Head died in Kiowa County. He was buried in the Oakdale Cemetery according to his death certificate. There is no marker at his grave site.
