Major League Baseball Player. For eleven seasons (1943 to 1945, 1950 to 1952, 1956 to 1960), he was a pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants. Born Eldred William Byerly, he attended Webster Groves High School (Missouri), prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Cardinals in 1940. He marked his Major League debut on September 26th, 1943 and recorded a win in two games pitched that year. The following season (1944), he experienced a world championship as the Cardinals defeated their hometown rivals the St. Louis Browns. Byerly pitched in 1 inning and recorded 1 strikeout during the 1944 World Series. From 1946 to 1955, he spent the majority of the time in the Minor Leagues with the exception of three years with the Reds (1950 to 1952). Primarily a reliever, Byerly's most productive body of work was while with the Senators and in 1957, when he yielded career highs in games with 47 and wins with 6. In 237 regular season games, he compiled a 22 win 22 loss record with a 3.70 lifetime ERA in 491 innings pitched. Following his baseball career, he worked in the construction industry.
