Major G. (Hal) Carenbauer

U.S. Army Ret. Major G. (Hal) Carenbauer (U.S. Army Ret.), went to meet his Heavenly Father on July 27, 2002. Hal was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on Jan. 6, 1926 to Helen and Harry Carenbauer.

He was raised in Wheeling with his two brothers and his sister, Mary Kahle, who he is survived by. His two brothers, Paul and Robert, preceded him in death. His father's first wife preceded him in death and left him with three young daughters, Ruth Rosensteele, Elizabeth Ann Comack and Emily Zimmerman. The preceding two are deceased.

After H.S. in 1943, Hal enlisted in the Navy and was Honorably Discharged as a Yeoman First Class. He then enlisted in the Army as a Tech. Sgt. and later promoted to a Master Sgt. He subsequently was commissioned as a Captain, Adjutant General Corps serving his last 10 years, retiring as Major. He later worked another 14 years at the Puget Sound Naval Ship Yard and retired from Federal Civil Service in February 1988.

He is survived by his two loving daughters, Connie Saul of San Diego and Paula Springer of Fircrest, along with four grandsons, Justin Schmitter, Chase and Nicholas Carlson and Shane Springer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (TODAY), July 30, from 4-8 pm at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 Sixth Ave. with recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 31 at 1:30 pm at St. Ann#s Catholic
Church, 72nd and Park Ave, with entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow at St. Ann's. Donations may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church. Special thanks to Dad#s caregiver Kathy, Dr. Williams, his nurse Kay-c, Group Health employees, volunteers and hospice.
