ACCARDO Anthony J. Accardo departed this life on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at the age of 93. Beloved husband for 67 years to his departed wife Gloria Boesch Accardo. Survived by his sons: Anthony J. Accardo II and wife Kevin of Houston, TX, and Steven P. Accardo and fiancé Carin Rohm of Slidell, LA; three grandchildren: Christopher A. and wife Joanie Accardo, Scott M. Accardo, and Adam J. Accardo, and one great-grandchild, Charlie Accardo. Son of the late Joseph P. Accardo, Sr. and Angelina Caronna Accardo. Brother of the late Charles Accardo, Angelina A. DiGiovanni, Lena A. Miller, Madeline A. Scalise, Joseph P. Accardo, Jr., Nicholas Accardo, Michael Accardo, and recently departed Christopher John Accardo, Sr. (C.J.). Anthony "Tony" J. Accardo began his career with Ingram Barge Company in 1961. He retired in 1983 after 22 years of dedicated service. His entire career in the Marine Transportation Industry spanned 41 years. He was an assistant Vice President in charge of traffic at the time of his retirement from Ingram. Tony is a New Orleans native who graduated from Jesuit High School. He also attended Loyola and Tulane Universities. In October of 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served our country in WWII. He was assigned to the 390th Bomb Group in 1943, and there attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Since 1990, Tony has resided in Eden Isles Subdivision in Slidell, LA. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening. He also enjoyed fishing and crabbing from the dock in his back yard. Tony was previously involved with volunteer activities with the City of Slidell. He is a former member of the Propeller Club, a past member of the Board of Directors of the Eden Isles Homeowner's association, and also served on their Architectural Committee. He is a former member and past Board Member of the New Orleans Saints Touchdown Club. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchar-train Blvd. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories and condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
